Lisa Steinberg Conclusion and Blue Ribbon Campaign

In a report from 1997 from the CDC, the United States had the highest number of child homicide, suicide, and firearms-related deaths of 26 developed countries; of course, children have been abused all through history, and some believe we are just beginning to face the true prevalence and significance of child abuse, others worry that many people have become obsessed with child abuse and deny personal responsibility for their problems.

I believe child abuse is inflicted by mentally ill perpetrators ( men or women) regardless of race, age, and social status. When adults use their power over children to subjugate, control, and take on other roles but protector, they have crossed a threshold of conscience right and wrong, thus leading to mental illness. Otherwise, how can one justify inhuman tortures inflicted on harmless infants or children?

The other big problem in our society is the bureaucracy surrounding the agencies responsible for protecting children. Overloaded by many cases, looking to save the 'parents' and child's rights, they sometimes forget they are dealing with and representing innocent and helpless children who lie to them for their safety. The different agencies had ample warning for Lisa Steinberg. The tenants of the Steinberg building and their neighbors were very outspoken. "We reported it to all the proper agencies," one said. A neighbor said to have called child abuse hotlines, and the responding investigator couldn't find sufficient evidence; William Grinker, then New York's commissioner of human resources, said that the reports of child abuse at the Steinberg household were mishandled. Mishandled doesn't make me feel better, knowing that this child could have been saved from a house of horror. I believe the mismanaged investigation involved Mr. Steinberg being a lawyer. Blue Ribbon Awareness reminds us of all of Lisa and Alissa (1995) and does not hesitate to intervene when abuse is suspected.

oh sibel,
this is so sad, and it is true that many of the agencies that are there to protect the children do not work.
most govt. agencies do not work, it may, or is to take back the communities, ourselves, who better to serve than another parent that is concerned for the well being of other children.

2012 Mayan Calendar 'Doomsday' Date Might Be Wrong

This article should get some of us more rational regarding the big hype about 2012, Planet X, and Doomsday... being reasonable is the hardest thing to do when overcome with extreme feelings of fear, despair, or even rapture. So open your mind to the idea that it could all be a spook, and we will all laugh about it on December 22, 2012. Otherwise, would you want to be the one to clean up the mess that Doomsday will leave behind? Would you want to survive Doomsday? Leave your comment: The Mayans Never Predicted the Doomsday Before continuing, it's worth emphasizing that this mesoamerican calendar (used by several cultures -- including the Maya -- in Central and South America before European colonization) does not predict an apocalypse. It never did, despite what the movie "2012" told us . The Mayan civilization existed from 250-900 A.D. in the current geographical location of southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador,  and some of Honduras. Archaeologists...

Propaganda versus News on Social Media

Propaganda versus News on Social Media. Introduction Social media has become a ubiquitous part of our lives, connecting us with people, information, and entertainment. However, social media also poses challenges and risks, especially regarding the quality and credibility of the information we consume and share. How can we tell the difference between news and propaganda on social media? What are the impacts of social media on our society, politics, economy, and mental health?  I will explore these questions and suggest ways to improve our media literacy and critical thinking skills. What are the differences between News and Propaganda? News and propaganda are both forms of communication that aim to inform, persuade, or influence the audience. However, they differ in their purpose, methods, and ethical standards. News is based on verifiable facts, evidence, and sources, presenting multiple perspectives and contexts in a balanced and fair way. News also acknowledges errors and ...
